Our company participated in the control activity for the invasive alien species, the Signal crayfish, along the Toyohira River running through Sapporo City from Monday, November 18 to Tuesday, November 19, 2024. Despite the extremely cold weather (-3℃ air temperature and 8℃ water temperature) due to the arrival of the second cold wave of the season, about 20 large Signal crayfish were captured. This was the last control activity for the year.
In 2022, Sapporo City formulated the “Sapporo Signal Crayfish Control Implementation Plan”. To prevent damage to the ecosystem by the Signal crayfish, the plan aims to control the Signal crayfish as necessary, and to prevent the expansion of their habitat and new invasions and establishment.
Our company (Sapporo Branch) has been involved in the project as a business and volunteer member since 2020. Since 2022, we have been involved from the planning stage, participating in control activities and supporting civic events.
In 2024, we participated in control activities on the main and tributaries of Toyohira and Atsubetsu Rivers on the following dates.
<7/12-13 (civic event), 7/26, 8/7-8/8, 9/5-6 (business), 9/9-10, 9/19, 10/30, 11/7, 11/18-19>
